Menteri Riset Teknologi dan Pendidikan Tinggi (Menristekdikti) Mohamad Nasir mendorong perguruan tinggi berperan aktif menjadi motor penggerak perekonomian daerah, sesuai dengan potensi yang dimiliki daerah tersebut. Dengan demikian perguruan tinggi tidak menjadi “menara gading”, namun membawa kesejahteraan bagi masyarakat.
“Maluku merupakan salah satu lumbung perikanan di Indonesia. Politeknik Perikanan Negeri Tual sebagai salah satu perguruan tinggi di wilayah ini harus mampu menjadi motor penggerak perekonomian masyarakat di bidang ekonomi maritim. Sumber daya alam di laut harus kita eksplorasi untuk kepentingan masyarakat Maluku,” ungkap Menristekdikti saat memberikan kuliah umum di Politeknik Perikanan Negeri Tual, Langgur, Kab. Maluku Tenggara.
Menteri Nasir mengatakan bahwa Indonesia mempunyai garis pantai terpanjang di dunia, sementara ekspor perikanan masih nomor empat di Asia Tenggara. Kondisi tersebut menunjukkan bahwa potensi perikanan belum dikelola dengan baik, Maluku sebagai lumbung perikanan Indonesia juga lumbung pangan laut terbesar di Indonesia, tapi kehidupan masyarakat belum sepenuhnya sejahtera dari sektor perikanan. Oleh karena itu peran perguruan tinggi menjadi sangat penting dalam memberikan nilai tambah bagi ekonomi maritim, terutama di wilayah Maluku.
Menristekdikti menambahkan bahwa di era Revolusi Industri 4.0 dibutuhkan terobosan-terobosan besar di bidang pendidikan tinggi perikanan ataupun kemaritiman di Indonesia. Dengan memanfaatkan perkembangan teknologi, nilai tambah yang akan dihasilkan nelayan juga akan meningkat. Teknologi akan meningkatkan efektivitas dan efisiensi nelayan dalam mencari ikan. Dengan penggunaan teknologi, nelayan akan lebih mudah mencari ikan di laut tanpa merusak ekosistem laut.
Pada kesempatan ini Menteri Nasir menekankan pentingnya sinergi antara perguruan tinggi, dunia industri dan pemerintah daerah dalam mendorong pertumbuhan ekonomi di Maluku. “Tanpa ada sinergi, ekonomi maritim di daerah tidak akan menjadi berkembang. Oleh karena itu integrasi antara industri perikanan, pendidikan tinggi dan pemerintahan daerah sangat penting, pemerintah pusat nanti hanya mendorong supaya pertumbuhan ekonomi dapat berjalan terus, “ jelas Menteri Nasir.
Menteri Nasir mengingatkan Politeknik Perikanan Negeri Tual untuk senantiasa meningkatkan mutu pendidikannya. Politeknik harus mampu menghasilkan lulusan yang terampil dan memiliki daya saing tinggi, karena saat ini persaingan kerja tidak hanya dengan sesama lulusan dalam negeri, namun juga dengan tenaga kerja dari luar negeri. Lulusan politeknik harus memiliki sertifikasi keahlian dan menguasai bahasa asing agar mampu juga bersaing ketika ke luar negeri.
Direktur Politeknik Perikanan Negeri Tual Jusron Ali Rahajaan mengapresiasi kehadiran Menteri Nasir untuk memberikan kuliah umum di politeknik satu-satunya di Tual. Jusron mengungkapkan bahwa kehadiran Menristekdikti menjadi bukti perhatian pemerintah terhadap pemerataan kualitas pendidikan tinggi Indonesia.Jusron memiliki keyakinan bahwa Poltek Perikanan Negeri Tual dapat menjawab kebutuhan daerah akan sumber daya manusia yang berkualitas sekaligus menjadi motor penggerak ekonomi daerah.
